Slower by choice. Deeper by design.
A studio at the intersection of architecture, art, and atmosphere.
Architecture · Art · Ritual · Place
I didn’t always live like this.
For years, I designed high-end hotels, cultural spaces, and flagship retail interiors — for clients like A.P.C. Paris, the The National Gallery of Denmark, and boutique hospitality brands across Europe. It was beautiful, fast-paced work. But somewhere in me, something was always reaching for slowness, for stillness, for the honesty of weather and wild places.
Eventually, I followed that pull north.
Now I live between two small islands on the coast of Helgeland, where I restore old homes, grow food in Arctic soil, and design buildings that breathe with light, memory, and belonging. My work has expanded — and deepened. It’s no longer just about form, but feeling. Not just function, but meaning.
I still create — across architecture, interior design, product, and place-based art.
But every project begins the same way:
by listening to the land.
Place over trend
Time, craft, and presence
Ritual as design tool
Natural materials, local knowledge
Poetry in process
Space as healer
VALRYGG Studio is a Nordic architecture and design studio rooted in seasonal rhythms, tactile materials, and the quiet power of place. Founded in 2014 by Anita Valrygg, the studio has grown from a traditional practice into a living, breathing philosophy — where architecture meets storytelling, and design becomes ritual.
We create buildings, objects, and experiences that invite people to slow down, reconnect, and come home — to themselves, to nature, and to the spaces they inhabit. From off-grid cabins and residential restoration to hotels, cultural spaces, and curated objects, our work is grounded in an atmosphere-first approach — one that listens closely to light, material, and memory.
We design with nature, not over it.
We believe in letting the land speak.
We allow time and craft to shape the outcome.
Our team is multidisciplinary and collaborative — working across architecture, interiors, furniture, and art direction. We partner with artisans, chefs, foragers, farmers, and creatives to build spaces and objects that are both soulful and lasting.
At VALRYGG, we believe that beauty can be an anchor.
That stillness is a form of strength.
And that design, when done with care, becomes a quiet act of world-building.
