Nesna viewpoint takes place in a priviledged site
in Nesna, part of the Helgeland traditional region,
surrounded by beautiful views to the city and water.
The scenic surroundings comprise the islands of Hugla, Handnesøya and Tomma.
The local identity of the municipality was the key to the design process. We aimed to create an element that could belong and interact with the surroundings. A simple architecture that could be experienced inside and outside, indicating awereness of life and presence.
The Municipality´s identity is marked by Nesna Kirke, the boats by the coast and the Utsikten Hiking Trail.
A common feature in the hiking culture is stone stacking, which promotes social interaction among explores to create a landmark and a wayfinder.
How to combine local features and create a point of reference and interaction for explorers?
We interpretate the context elements to provide Nesna a unique
viewpoint, that aims to be a recognizable place people can rest, socialize and enjoy
the breathtaking view.
A fire element is added to strengthen the new viewpoint as schenographic icon:
Whenever there are people up in the mountains Nesna is aware.
The centered fireplace also allows the viewpoint to be a place of social interaction.
